Course details

Criminal exploitation is child abuse where children and young people are manipulated and coerced into committing crimes The aims of this training are to assist practitioners to -

  • understand how to identify children vulnerable to being recruited into gangs and recognising the signs that they are being exploited for criminal activity
  • recognise the process behind grooming children for exploitation and identifying risk factors and warning signs to develop an intervention process
  • debunk the myths that shroud CCE and learning how to avoid preconceptions about gang culture and its victims
  • recognise the dangers of CCE and the importance of your role in providing help and support to young people
  • have awareness of the local picture and the importance of multi-agency working.
  • understand the legal framework and Youth Justice intervention
  • application of the NRM process in CCE
Course objectives
  • To understand and discuss the definition of Child exploitation
  • To give participants the opportunity to discuss the context of Child Criminal Exploitation
  • To gain an understanding of what action to take should Criminal Exploitation be identified
  • To be able to identify factors that increase young people's vulnerability to Criminal Exploitation
  • To be able to identify potential indicators of Exploitation
  • To understand why victims, return to the perpetrators
  • To be aware of local services and referral pathways for children, young people and adults who are exploited
  • To understand the theoretical underpinning of CCE behaviours
  • Increased awareness of the importance of Contextual Safeguarding in relation to child criminal exploitation
