Target group	All staff who work with and support children, young people and their families and carers.
Learning pathway	Before attending this course participants must have attended Safeguarding Children – A Shared Responsibility.
Course aims	To increase awareness of the impact of domestic abuse on adults, children and young people.
Course objectives	To develop an understanding of the effects of domestic abuse on adults, children and young people To develop an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on the parent/ child relationship To gain knowledge of how to offer appropriate help and support to adults, children and young people who are or have experienced domestic abuse
Learning outcomes	Day 1 By the end of the course participants will have - examined their attitudes and understanding of domestic abuse. explored the forms domestic abuse can take and the contexts in which it can occur. examined some of the myths and assumptions around domestic abuse. looked at what services and support are available locally. examined their own practice and issues in the workplace in response to domestic abuse. examined agencies responsibilities in relation to risk identification, assessment and management. explained some of the lessons learned from the risk identification, assessment and management process. described the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) process and understand the guidancearound this. Day 2 By the end of the course participants will have - developed an understanding of the effects of domestic abuse on children and young people. developed an understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on the parent/ child relationship. gained knowledge of how to offer appropriate help and support to adults, children and young people who are orhave experienced domestic abuse
