Hull and East Riding Pathways interactive learning package

Pathways - Navigating gaming, the internet and extremism

Pathways - Navigating gaming, the internet and extremism. A free youth-centered interactive learning package for education on extremism, radicalisation and Prevent.

Pathways is a bespoke interactive learning package, developed by us and East Riding of Yorkshire Council in partnership with Shout Out UK. It is part of the Prevent programme, funded by the Home Office.

The game seeks to inform and educate young people between the ages of 11 to 18 years old about radicalisation and extremism.

While developed with Hull & East Riding settings in mind we have chosen to make Pathways free to access nationally.

Within this webpage you should also be able to access the Pathways teacher's guide which supports with lesson planning and delivery of the package in the classroom setting.

Objectives

The objectives of the learning package are to -

  • encourage learning about the concept of extremism and radicalisation through the process of choice and safe exploration
  • illustrate the scope of online dangers and radicalisation routes
  • introduce and explain the Prevent Programme to young people
  • equip young people with an understanding of support available if they have concerns for themselves or others in relation to extremism
  • highlight the thin boundary between online extremism and ‘real-life’ harm, demonstrating the connection between the two worlds

How to use the Pathways learning package

Our learning package has been designed to be used anywhere with an internet connection to reach as many young people as possible.

Simply select through the scenarios, making choices as you go.

Teacher's guide

You can download a free teacher's guide to accompany the game. The guide explains the rational of the video, its relevance to young people, and contains further information and resources.
